Our Founder

 Apostle A. S. Johnson, Jr. founded Refuge Temple Church Inc. in 1972 at 21 years of age. He had no formal biblical training and leaned on the Holy Spirit’s guidance in everything. He established at least 16 churches during his lifetime with 4 churches remaining underneath the ministry umbrella.  He was a man of great faith and power bringing Jesus on the scene wherever he traveled.  Through the Grace of God, he dedicated himself to countless 21-day and a number of 40-day complete fasts. The reward that followed his dedication was the presence of God on his life and ministry. Miracles, signs, and wonders followed.  He was visited by angels and received many open visions as well as the revelatory mysteries of the Word of Life.  Apostle Johnson is the father of Adrienne Monique, Kimberly Yvette, Andrew S. Johnson, III and Sharee Nicole from his former marriage to Katherine Early Johnson.  He married Henrietta Bolton Kennard in June 1987. Upon that union 3 bonus children were added:  Kijuana, DeMonica, and Abraham Love making him a proud dad to seven children. He finished his course, emptying himself of everything that God gave to him.
